The Dirty Duo begins with a challenging event from the start. One team member
must carry the other teammate on their back for a distance of 100 yards (seems longer if you’re the one carrying). Then, one team member heads off on the course running, the other riding the bicycle. Each team determines its own strategies to get through the course, which covers about 6 miles. Usually, the one on the bicycle passes the runner, drops the bike alongside the trail, and takes off on the run. The runner who was passed mounts the bicycle and rides until he/she passes the running teammate, drops the bike and again takes off down the trail on the run. Mystery events occur throughout the race. Teams could be stopped along the course for tractor tire flipping, potato sack jumping, tunnels to crawl thru or wheel barrel racing. The course climbs over “Bickel Mountain” a couple of times. Teams take on GIANT SLIDE (sprayed with dish soap so it is really slippery!). Athletes get to experience the famous mud pit twice. It is made up of a truck load of top soil and 1000 gallons of water. Teams have to crawl under a cargo net getting covered with mud and thus how we arrived at the name of this unusual event. A team’s time is not recorded until both teammates have completed the entire course. Awards go to participants according to divisions: male, female, co-ed and the runners only division. Each division has age groups: under 80 combined age, 80 to 105 and over 105. each division.
Obstacles that you may encounter on the course will include a fence crawl, steep hill run, downhill slide, tire flip, tire run, mystery event, 20’ x 4’ tunnel crawl, tire roll & pull, mud pit…and several others that will test your strength and endurance. Keep in mind that you will be doing the 3-mile loop twice, so save some for the finish! Last weekend we did a race simulation of this course (minus the mud pit) and we’re still feeling it…so you may want to eat your Wheaties the morning of the race!!
What to expect race day: Plan to warm-up before the race with a little caffeine buzz. Then once you’re on the course, have your game face on and let’s see which team can get the dirtiest because Lake’s Photography will be taking your mug shots! Besides lots of great photos during the event, our post-race festivities will include, raffles for some great giveaways & prizes and awards for Categories/Age Groups. Also, don’t forget to recover properly with an assortment of smoothies, as well as other delicious bites to eat, good music & a great time.
